William J. Shapiro

Practice Experience

Following graduation from the University of Michigan Law School and a year of postgraduate study in taxation at New York University School of Law, Bill returned to his home town in 1962 where he began his law practice with an established tax law firm. His initial field of specialization was estate planning which continues to be a major part of his practice.

In 1967 he became one of the first lawyers in Kansas City to actively promote the incorporation of physicians and other professionals to enable them to obtain retirement and other tax benefits which were then available only to employees. He continues to represent a number of professional corporations and LLCs assisting them in their business and tax matters.

Bill joined Dysart Taylor in 2003 where he continues his business/transactional practice serving as counsel to a number of small to medium sized businesses that provide goods and services locally, regionally and nationally. His practice encompasses most aspects of business including tax planning, succession planning, new business formations and combinations of existing businesses as well as the purchase and sale of business entities and assets.

In addition to his law practice Bill is active in the community having hosted a show on public radio for 25 years and published two books on popular music. He serves as an auctioneer for many local charities including Johnson County Community College, the Society for Contemporary Photography and The American Royal.
