In what is believed to be the first federal jury trial held in Dodge City, Kansas, shareholder/director John F. Wilcox, Jr. and associate Meghan A. Litecky secured a defense verdict for their client, one of the largest meat processors in the country.
The Dysart Taylor team earned the unanimous jury verdict in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas in front District Judge Eric F. Melgren. The plaintiff, an individual who suffered a serious leg injury, filed a premise liability lawsuit against the food processor claiming damages in excess of $430,000.
The case, which was originally filed in November 2018, ended without the jury awarding any monetary damages.
“We are proud that our team was able to secure the win for our client after two years,” Wilcox said. “It was also a very weird experience. With COVID-19, the courtroom was decked out with plexiglass panels. For most of the trial, the judge, jury, attorneys and witnesses were all in masks.”
