Dysart Taylor shareholder/director John F. Wilcox, Jr., who was elected president of the Transportation Lawyers Association in April, authored his second President’s Message in the October edition of The Transportation Lawyer.

In his letter, Wilcox outlines the decisions made at the recent summer executive committee meeting, which was originally scheduled as an in-person meeting in Kansas City. He stated, “Although we were unable to share in KC barbeque, beer and local music, we had an excellent meeting full of lively participation and contribution. I would like to thank everyone in attendance for their support and enthusiasm.”

Among the topics discussed, Wilcox and the executive team were able to finalize the 2020-2021 budget, plan next year’s webinar schedule – including two additional webinars, and build a campaign focused on attracting new members and member retention.

Wilcox also discussed why the organization is currently working to create its first-ever diversity statement and policy. He said, “The TLA unequivocally condemns racism and discrimination in all forms. As lawyers, we must defend the rule of law, and work for the fair application of the rule of law to everyone. As an organization, the TLA needs to do a better job promoting diversity and inclusion within its membership and leadership.”

Wilcox concludes his letter with updates on TLA’s upcoming events, November’s Transportation Law Institute and 2021’s Chicago Regional Conference and Bootcamp. Learn more about each and more TLA events on their website.

For more than 20 years, Wilcox has represented clients in the trucking industry, advising motor carriers, drivers, 3PLs, shippers, manufacturers and governmental entities in wrongful death, serious personal injury and property claims.
