Dysart Taylor McMonigle Brumitt & Wilcox today announces the pending retirement of longtime shareholder/director Patrick K. McMonigle after 50 years at the firm. His retirement will be effective July 1, 2026.
“The firm congratulates Pat on reaching such a significant milestone,” Dysart Taylor President John Wilcox said. “Pat has been a friend and mentor of mine since I joined the firm in 2000. Pat is one of the finest litigators I have encountered in my career and his impact at Dysart Taylor has been immeasurable, from his successes as an attorney to the way he shaped our firm’s culture and values. The dedication Pat has shown to serving his clients has set a standard of excellence at our firm that every attorney strives to meet. We are incredibly grateful for his decades of service and leadership and wish him the best of luck in this next step. His lasting legacy will endure.”
McMonigle earned well-deserved distinction as a premier litigator and counselor consistently motivated to obtain the best results, thoroughly and persistently maintaining focus upon the success of his clients. His skill and ethics garnered third-party recognition as being among the very best in the business among peers in Kansas City, the state of Missouri and beyond. This included serving as the president of the Transportation Lawyers Association in 2011-2012 and earning the TLA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.
“In my view, Pat has been the driving force in the continued success of the Dysart Taylor law firm since Messrs. Dysart, Taylor, Lay, Cotter, Lewandowski and others fully or essentially left the practice of law,” said friend and retired Dysart Taylor attorney Ken Hoffman. “We all owe Pat a debt of sincere gratitude for his many years of service to the law firm and the legal profession, and especially for his friendship.”
Retirement brings an end to a lengthy and unique history at the firm.
McMonigle started at Dysart Taylor as a law clerk in 1976 following his first year at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. Following graduation, he joined the firm as an associate attorney and was elected a shareholder/director in his fourth year of private practice. Pat then went on to lead the firm as its managing director and then president.
“I am very fortunate to have been associated with Dysart Taylor since I began my legal career,” McMonigle said. “It has been a privilege to work with this team of exceptional and talented attorneys, as well as with the firm’s terrific support staff who have been so integral to our firm’s success. I also wish to thank all the many clients who trusted me for advice and support and allowed me and our firm to participate in their success.
“I’ve been very fortunate to have worked with my friends at Dysart Taylor over the years and to be able to contribute to building Dysart Taylor’s legacy both in the Kansas City legal community and nationally. I will always cherish my time at this firm.”
McMonigle earned his legal degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1978 with distinction, and received his undergraduate degree in 1974 from Southeast Missouri State University, cum laude.
