Why did you want to become an attorney? What made you decide on this field?

Growing up, my parents always told me that I would be a good lawyer because I loved performing in front of an audience and being in a courtroom would give me a way to continue to do that. I was a music teacher before going to law school, and I realized that there were many things that, as a teacher, I was powerless to change, so I decided it was time to go to law school to become someone who could help drive much-needed changes in employment and education.

What is the best thing about being an attorney?

I love that it keeps me on my toes and challenges me on a daily basis. No two cases are the same, so I’m constantly required to learn new things and come up with creative, new arguments. I also enjoy helping people, whether that be helping employees that have been treated wrongfully by their employers or helping employers ensure they are compliant with employment laws and protect their companies from unjust accusations of wrongful actions.

What is your biggest goal for your legal career?

My biggest goal is to help make changes in the law for the better.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I spend most of my time outside of work with my husband and our two dogs. I can also be found spending time at my piano playing and singing through sheet music from all of my favorite musicals.

What Kansas City experience would you recommend to everyone?

I highly recommend seeing a concert by the Kansas City Symphony at Kauffman Center, or outdoor summer theatre at Starlight Theatre or Theatre in the Park. Kansas City has some extraordinarily talented musicians and performers, and the Kauffman Center in particular is a beautiful venue for listening to music.
