Dysart Taylor shareholders/directors Katy Alsobrook and Anne Lindner Saghir volunteered at the MLK Day Legal Clinic in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The clinic, sponsored by the Literacy KC AmeriCorps VISTA program and the Volunteer Attorney Project (VAP), gave Literacy KC students an opportunity to receive free legal advice provided by pro bono attorneys.

At the clinic, Anne provided advice to individuals on rent and possession actions, and Katy provided advice to individuals on special education. Both Anne and Katy have been active members of VAP, providing pro bono legal counsel and representation for individuals in need.

The Volunteer Attorney Project was founded following a decrease in federal funding for legal service programs that provided representation in civil cases to people with little or no income. The mission of VAP was to coordinate an effort with private attorneys who were willing to donate their time and experience to those in need. As hoped, the idea and collaboration have succeeded and, as a result, eligible residents of western Missouri may now receive free legal assistance from participating attorneys in private practice.
